John 2:1-12

 Jesus and his disciples and his mom were at a wedding. His mom says to him "They have no more wine." And Jesus replies "Woman, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come."

And then she tells the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

And Jesus ends up saving the party by supplying more wine and making the hosts look really good.

I find this conversation between Jesus and his mom fascinating. She calmly asks him to do something in a very subtle way - just stating the problem. But he gets it. He knows she wants him to do something. He acts annoyed. How strange! And she ends up changing his mind. Maybe he wasn't prepared to start his ministry of signs and miracles. But because he listened to his mom, he let her give him a little kickstart.

Did God speak through Mary, maybe during a time when Jesus wasn't fully dialed in to his father? Like at the garden of Gesthemane, where he shows his dread of his death.  

There's a lot here! I want to sit and contemplate and pray and write all morning. BUT the kids are awake now. So I need to transition into Mom mode. 

Lord, help me to stay bound to you today. Like Mary, help me to remember that I can tell you my troubles and problems throughout the day. And then help me to release the results to you. Amen.

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. He's trying to explain to them what he is about to do and why they can't follow him now. It's impossible for them to understand! But this is one of my favourite parts in the bible ... all the things that Jesus says to them between the last supper and his arrest.  There is such intimacy and urgency and love in his words. He is about to leave them and he wants them to be ready for trouble they are about to experience. John 12: Do I love my life too much?

John 12  It's getting closer to the time when Jesus will die. Jesus came to Jeruselum on a young donkey while the people waved palm branches at him, shouting "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Isreal!"  His following has grown because of the miracles people have been witnessing and the Pharisees are eager to put all this to an end. Jesus says "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and wherever I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me." John 17: Glory

"My prayer is not for them alone. I also pray for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you have given me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I want those you have given to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world." (John 17:20-24)  The glory of Jesus. Where is it? How can I see it?   John Piper speaks of God's glory as something to be amazed at - taking the attention off ourselves and being awestruck by him.
